Whoa! When I heard this I had to stop and take a deep breath.
Paul Verhoeven the director of ‘Basic Instinct’ believes and has considered this for the past two decades. I’m not surprised that he holds this as a possible truth. I’m shocked that not only does he have the balls – {not courage} – to vocalize it, but soon will release a book.
“Jesus of Nazareth: A Realistic Portrait” is due to hit the shelves this fall. An Amsterdam publishing house is prepared to take the risk. No matter how badly this autobiograhy of Jesus is hated, watch how everyone will flock to their local bookstores to make a purchase the day it’s released. I see a New York Times Best Seller in the making.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the purity of Jesus’ birth has been challenged or, that Jesus’ father was really a rapist.
Kirk Bingaman, director of the pastoral counseling program at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Religion, said the idea that Mary was raped and that the rapist was Jesus’ father is not new.
“The idea goes back to ancient sources from the 1st or 2nd century; I personally don’t put a lot of stock in it. How would we ever know? We don’t have any empirical proof. I subscribe to the Apostles’ Creed that Jesus was conceived of the Virgin Mary,” he said.
Regardless as to whether or not ? – this is his truth as he has come to know it.
He’s a man of the Catholic faith that holds a doctorate in mathematics and physics from the University of Leiden. Verhoeven was a regular attendee of the Jesus Seminar which was co-founded by the late religion scholar Robert W. Funk.
My only hope is that seeing as this will be considered a blasphemy against the religious & christians most high – “Don’t kill Verhoeven or burn his house down, possibly injuring those who are only innocent bystanders”.
Let him believe in his intrepretation and meaning – Can you as a Christian handle the challenge(s) of your beliefs?

Interesting idea, I had never considered rape. I just assumed Mary was screwing around and invented a fantastic story about being impregnated by god to avoid being stoned or whatever they did to “bad girls” back in the day.

What the Islamic strap bombs to their children and Christians do what? Drown them in bathtubs, kill them w/the brutality and force of their own hands? Thrown their newborns in garbage cans/dumpsters – need I go on?
There is no difference – Murder is Murder. And violence is violence.
