found this – Dan Abrams Verdict – 13 minutes in length, panel discussion on John McCain’s statement dating back to 1999.

“Republicans have hammered Michelle Obama for her remarks in February that she was proud of America “for the first time in my adult life.” Tonight, however, Dan Abrams showed footage he uncovered of a Fox News interview with John McCain on March 13, 2008, in which McCain said, “I didn’t really love America until I was deprived of her company.”

Abrams thinks McCain’s comments could undermine the “right wing’s steady attacks against Michelle Obama.” click me – McCain I Didn’t Love America Until Held Prisoner.

McCain cancels fundraiser with controversial Texas oilman

WASHINGTON – Questions from the media prompted Republican John McCain to cancel a fundraiser at the home of a Texas oilman who once joked that women should give in while being raped.

The Texan, Republican Clayton “Claytie” Williams, made the joke during his failed 1990 campaign for governor against Democrat Ann Richards. Williams compared rape to the weather, saying, “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.” He also compared Richards to the cattle on his ranch, saying he would “head her and hoof her and drag her through the dirt.”

Williams’ comments made national news at the time and remain easy to find on the Internet. Even so, McCain’s campaign said it hadn’t known about the remarks.

Reproductive Rights – How Much Do You Know?

(since the post ‘John McCain’s War on Women ‘ I’ve received quite a few personal e-mails thanking me, many women were not aware of the issues/stances McCain not only stood on, but has voted – I felt this post was only befitting and very much appropriate.)

Every day, at the state, local and federal levels, decisions are made that impact women’s reproductive health.

Do you know the status of reproductive rights in America?

Test your knowledge to find out » Test Your Knowledge of Women’s Health Policy

Decisions are made daily by the courts system, our legislators and even the FDA that have major implications for women’s rights and health — from contraception, to sex education, to breast and gynecological cancers and more.

But it can be a scramble to try and keep up-to-date via newspapers, magazines, television and the web when trying to get current information on women’s health and reproductive rights today. Does that translate into feeling confident in what you know about these critical issues?

Your Whiteness is Showing

An Open Letter to Certain White Women Who Are Threatening to Withhold Support from Obama in November

This is an open letter to those white women who, despite their proclamations of progressivism, and supposedly because of their commitment to feminism, are threatening to withhold support from Barack Obama in November. You know who you are. (paragraph 1)

First, for those of you threatening to actually vote for John McCain and to oppose Senator Obama, or to stay home in November and thereby increase the likelihood of McCain winning and Obama losing (despite the fact that the latter’s policy platform is virtually identical to Clinton’s while the former’s clearly is not), all the while claiming to be standing up for women… (paragraph 5)

For those threatening to vote for John McCain or to stay home and increase the odds of his winning (despite the fact that he once called his wife the c-word in public and is a staunch opponent of reproductive freedom and gender equity initiatives, such as comparable worth legislation), all the while claiming to be standing up for women…(paragraph 6)

For those threatening to vote for John McCain or to stay home and help ensure Barack Obama’s defeat, as a way to protest what you call Obama’s sexism (examples of which you seem to have difficulty coming up with), all the while claiming to be standing up for women…(paragraph 7)

Your whiteness is showing.

folks have a bad habit of wanting to shoot the messenger for the message skedaddle on over to Tim Wise’s place and argue all night with him, because these are just excerpts there’s more.

Why is John McCain getting $58,000 in disability (taxfree)

What is he doing running for president, if he is disabled?

When McCain released his tax return for 2007 on Friday, he separately disclosed that he received a pension of $58,358 that was not listed as income on his return.

On Monday, McCain’s staff identified the retirement benefit as a “disability pension” and said that McCain “was retired as disabled because of his limited body movements due to injuries as a POW.”

McCain campaign strategist Mark Salter said Monday night that McCain was technically disabled. “Tortured for his country — that is how he acquired his disability,” Salter said.

McCain would be the oldest man to enter the White House if he is elected president, and questions have been raised about his health.

McCain has twice developed melanoma, a potentially deadly form of skin cancer.

The fact that he is legally designated with a disability pension may raise further questions.

“It is a legitimate question to ask about the commander in chief: Is he fit to serve,” said Robert Schriebman, a senior Pentagon tax advisor and tax attorney who recently retired as a judge advocate for a unit of the California National Guard.

If McCain can hike across the Grand Canyon, then why should he be getting disability payments from the government that are tax-exempt, Schriebman asked.

this is about the man who doesn’t support a new an improved GI Bill….
